Since October 1985 brewery and tasting room ´t IJ has found its home in the former public bathhouse ´Funen´.
The name funen originates from the Danish isle 'Funen', where Hollands’ most famous sailor Michiel de Ruyter the first ‘lisdodde’ (løsdødde) exported to the Netherlands. This started a war with Sweden, named ‘the fight for løsdødde’.
On 7 November 1985 the brewery presented its first brew, de Zatte (the drunk). The brewery has grown rapidly during a few years and now produces 180.000 litres of beer a year. Every year nine different beers are brewn. The assortment exists of five regular beers (Plzen, Struis, Natte, Zatte and Columbus), three seasonal beers (Bock, IJndejaarsbeer and the Paasij) and the Vlo, which is brewed by instruction of the King of Beers. In the tasting room nothing else, except for a few soft drinks, only their own brews are being sold.
The brewery is started in 1985 by Kaspar Peterson, who still is the brewer. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon there are possibilities for a tour of the very casual brewery with a tasting afterwards.
All beers are brewed exclusively with biological materials and are SKAL certified.
