Half day Old Amsterdam and China town (4 hours)

Your local guide will walk with you through one of the most divers and famous neighbourhoods of Amsterdam.
Your local guide will walk with you through one of the most divers and famous neighbourhoods of Amsterdam. We will start our tour at “De Oude Kerk”. More than three centuries had passed before the 'Oude Kerk" the earliest parish church Amsterdam attained its present form. The church has almost as many chapels as there have been building phases. The earliest building phase however is lost in the mist of time. Archaeologists think that the 'Amstelledammers, founded their first church at the turn of the 13th and 14th century. In the same area we visit yet another church “Ons Lieve Heer op Solder” a unique hidden church behind a 17th century façade. It also houses a museum which gives a good impression of the city’s Catholic past.

We continue our tour to the Zeedijk, one of the oldest streets of the city where for many centuries sailors enjoyed their stay in Amsterdam! At the end of the street you will find the Fo Guang Shan He Hua Temple, the largest Budhist temple in Europe that has been built in traditional Chinese palace-style. The atmosphere of the temple is Chinese, however Buddhism and practicing Buddhism are both universal and beyond architectural features and culture. The tour ends at the Nieuwmarkt, a beautifull, trendy and lively square with many bars and restaurants in the adjacing streets, where we will have a drink in one of the oldests bars called “ ’t Loosje”. Your guide can inform you about the best places to have lunch, dinner or just a drink.
