The Railway Museum

The city of Utrecht is located in the middle of The Netherlands. This surprising and friendly city boasts cultural and historical highlights.

The cities ultimate symbol is the beautiful Dom Tower. In addition, Utrecht offers great shopping, contemporary convention and meeting venues, pleasant sidewalk cafes and all the ingredients for great clubbing. Utrecht is also home of some spectacular museums. We would like to present the Railway Museum.

After almost two years of reconstruction and rebuilding, the Railway Museum opened its doors again to the public on the 5th of June 2005.
We are proud to present the first culture adventure park of The Netherlands. The highlights of the railway history can be experienced in a unique and exciting manner.

A visit to the museum will take off in the 19th century Maliebaan station. You will be taken back to the year 1874 while you visit the royal waiting lounge, the 1st & 2nd and 3rd class waiting rooms and drop by the railway hairdresser.

Behind the Maliebaan station, a new museum has been built. In this huge new building you can move past, under and above Netherlands’ most important trains. Three different worlds invite you to relive the most beautiful moments in the history of the train. We take you back to the England of 1800 where you can visit the studio of Mr George Stephenson, designer of the famous Rocket steam train. We take you on a trip with the Orient Express that takes you to exotic places where you can stroll through kashbas and discover the world of the early 20th century traveller. We then let you feel the thrill of a roller coaster ride past and through impressive trains from the 1920’s and the 1930’s
In the outside railway park you can roam around the relics of railway times long gone.
