Warehouse De Zwijger

Warehouse ?De Zwijger? was built in 1933-1934 .The building is a sample of business and expressionistic architecture. The concrete construction that carries the building is formed by mushroom shaped columns giving the building its characteristic look. The warehouse was used for cold-storage products and was recently added to the official monumentlist. In the last decades were very turbulent for warehouse ?De Zwijger? Squatters took over the regime and used it as a major practice facility for pop music. Lois Lane was a frequent guest for rehearsals for many years.Renovation plans were turned down and the warehouse seemed doomed for no other purpose other than squatters using it and wordt of all, not keeping it up. After it was officially listed as a monument a foundation was formed in 1997 and funds raised for renovation and future plans.For development of the former harbour and docklands a bridge was constructed through the heart of the building. September 26 2006 the building was officially re-opened and is now available for cultural and public events as well as private receptions (500) and dinners (200).
